In Memory of TSGT. Anthony E. Dash, USAF
Anthony E. Dash, age 78 passed away May 12, 2020, at the Wilmington VA Hospital after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease due to exposure to Agent Orange. Affectionately known as "Tony", born in Brooklyn, NY, he married Marie Evans, May 1963 and had two daughters, Liana J. D. Thompson, Michala Dash Leventry; including son-in-law Michael and grandchildren, Tristan and Aubrey. We would have celebrated 57 years of marriage two weeks after he passed.
Tony was a perpetual learner; graduating from Franklin K. Lane HS in 1960, continuing with service to our country as a Medical Technician in the U.S. Air Force, healing fellow comrades before and after the Vietnam War (1968-1969); retiring in 1980. He acquired an associates degree in cardiopulmonary lab technology and graduated from Park College (1984) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Psychology.
After military retirement, Tony continued healing others. Employed at Wilmington Medical Center (1980-1984) in Respiratory Care, with Allergy Associates (1983-2004) as Medical Assistant to Dr. Leonard H. Seltzer, and was probably one of the first Physicians Assistants, prior to State Licensing in that field. He was a dedicated member of historic St. Joseph's Catholic Church in downtown Wilmington, Charter Member of Wilmington Diocese Gospel Choir and Knights of Peter Claver, Chapter #383, Wilmington Rowing Club, Member of the Merrimakers Group (Jingles), and volunteered at the Wilmington VA Medical Center and a dedicated member of the Wilmington Senior Center until Parkinson's forced him to discontinue.
Tony was known for giving out handwritten clothes pins, with inspirational sayings, to people he met in his daily interactions. For years he was known for giving handmade paper flowers, Saturday before Mother's Day to ladies shopping at popular "Dress Barn" in Fairfax. His love of healing people was his guiding principle and continued to the end.
He will be among those Vietnam Veterans, who returned home only to succumb to illness developed due to exposure to Agent Orange, being honored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund on June 15, 2024, in Washington DC.
Thank you for your service. You can now Rest in Peace.
