$tand By Me 50+

A statewide financial empowerment program offered by the Wilmington Senior Center that provides information, resources, and support to increase the economic stability of Delawareans ages 50 and older who are planning for retirement. Services include financial coaching, workshops, benefits access, and retirement planning. Services are made accessible to older adults through partnerships with other community organizations and mobile coaches who are co-located in multiple sites. Customers address personal financial challenges through goal-setting and financial empowerment strategies that build on their strengths rather than their deficiencies.

Grandparents Raising Grandkids

The Grandparent Resource Center supports grandparents raising grandchildren by providing information and referrals; individual case management; weekly support group meetings; and monthly educational programs. The Wilmington Senior Center? Grandparent Resource Center (GRC), the only program of its kind in Delaware, is our fastest growing program due to significant demand for supportive resources. In the state of Delaware, more than 10,000 grandparents are raising their grandchildren.

Health and Wellness

Our health and wellness programs and services are designed to keep minds, bodies, and spirits healthy: wellness seminars; exercise; health screenings; one-to-one group activities exploring the concerns of aging adults; casework and case management; information and referral; and outreach to isolated and homebound elderly. Our partnership with Christiana Care Health System includes a wide variety of healthcare programs and screenings including blood pressure, diabetes, nutrition, nutritional cooking demonstrations, fall prevention, and memory screenings.

Early Memory Loss Program

Early Memory Loss Program in partnership with the Swank Memory Care Center at Christiana Care Health System (CCHS) we offer an Early Memory Loss Program at the Center. The program meets twice weekly for 1.5 hours for a week program. This program is based on techniques of the Montessori Method of Learning for memory enhancement, strengthen brain function, and combat dementia. Additionally, CCHS provides memory screenings as part of their community outreach partnership.

The Caregiver Resource Center

The Caregiver Resource Center provides core services that include case management, information and assistance/referrals, education, and access to services and assistive technologies that support individual caregivers at any point along the continuum of caregiving. Program support will enable their loved one to age-in-place in the community. The support group addresses many concerns and stressors of the caregiver as they care for their aging and chronically ill loved ones.

The Lafayette Court Apartments

The Lafayette Court Apartments (Independent Living) are for Adults age 55 and over. This convenient location in a quiet residential neighborhood, offers easy access to public transportation, major shopping areas, Brandywine Zoo, and Brandywine Park.

Located next to the Wilmington Senior Center where you can enjoy the company of others and a variety of activities and trips offered by this very active group of older adults.

The Savvy Caregiver

Savvy Caregiver provides family caregivers caring for those with Alzheimer and Dementia Disease support via the utilization of the Savvy Caregiver training program. Core services consist of legal service vouchers, respite vouchers, information and assistance/referrals, education and access to services as well as sensory technology programs. The program support spectrums are acquired through a holistic framework using community alliances, empowerment-training techniques, and individualized support continuums to address the overall needs of these family caregivers.
